Ну, раз уж все здесь исправляют ошибки - тоже внесу свою лепту:
после typical предлог нужен of , а не for,
поэтому фраза будет звучать так: it's not typical of an average person.....

Police work must be entertaining as well as dangerous.
Recently, a female police officer arrested Patrick Lawrence, 22 year old white male, fornicating with a pumpkin in the middle of the night. The next day, at the Gwinnett County (GA) courthouse, Lawrence was charged with lewd and lascivious behaviour, public indecency and public intoxication.

The suspect explained that as he was passing a pumpkin patch on his way home from a drinking session when he decided to stop, 'You know how a pumpkin is soft and squishy inside, and there was no one around for miles or at least I thought there wasn't anyone around' he stated.

Lawrence went on to say that he pulled over to the side of the road, picked out a pumpkin that he felt was appropriate to his purpose, cut a hole in it, and proceeded to satisfy his pressing need. 'Guess I was really into it, you know?' he commented with evident embarrassment.
In the process of doing the deed, Lawrence failed to notice an approaching police car and was unaware of his audience until Officer Brenda Taylor approached him.

'It was an unusual situation, that's for sure,' said Officer Taylor. 'I walked up to Lawrence and he's just banging away at this pumpkin.'

Officer Taylor went on to describe what happened when she approached Lawrence ..
'I said: 'Excuse me sir, but do you realize that you're having sex with a pumpkin??'

He froze and was clearly very surprised that I was there, and then he looked me straight in the face and said:

'A pumpkin? Shit ... is it midnight already?'

Just to refresh this topic:
No dictionary has been able to adequately explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. However, in a recent linguistic conference held in London , England , and attended by some of the best linguists in the world: Samsundar Balgobin, a Guyanese, was the clear winner. His final challenge was this: Some say there is no difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED. Please explain the difference between COMPLETE and FINISHED in a way that is easy to understand.
Here is his astute answer: "When you marry the right woman, you are COMPLETE. But, when you marry the wrong woman, you are FINISHED. And when the right one catches you with the wrong one, you are COMPLETELY FINISHED!"
We can tell now it is working pretty much as he says, especially looking at general David Petraeus scandal :lol:

murlokotam Long time no see!

"run off at the mouth"
Вроде бы все понятно: много молоть языком попусту, много говорить не о чем и т.д. Все как бы понятно. Но меня смутил перевод, предложенный Google-ом... Вот как он это переводит:

Так может это действительно ругательство? :roll:

run off at the mouth - means to talk excessively or indiscreetly. In English it is NOT a swear, but it's definitely not nice to say it to/about someone. Also it is not very common expression these days, at least I don't hear this very often.

Don't sweat it. This is not the first time Google translation makes me laugh. Some of Google English Speakers made quite shinee appearances @ this forum. First of the Trend I have noticed, was unforgettable Mr Freaky, with his famous Google made American Slang. Second was his active successor SU2morrow, who was trying to fill his shoes on American Slang :lol: Just to name a few 8)

run off at the mouth
If you believe that the World is a little bit more interesting than Google says, at least find another e-dictionary, for example Multitran.ru. You will see some more Russian translations for the above-mentioned idiom:

-много говорить;
-зарапортоваться;
-болтать без умолку;
-балаболить;
-распускать язык;
-словесный понос (разг.)

http://www.multitran.ru/c/M.exe?CL=1&s= ... mouth&l1=1

Also:

-трещать,
-трезвонить;
-трындеть;
-сыпать словами, как из мешка горохом,
-и рот, и ж..па говорит.......,etc.

As you can see Russian language is much richer than English one and has more equivalents for the same English phrase. Unfortunately, some sources as Google want to show Velikij i Moguchij as a SWEAR dirty language!! Although obscenities is only one of numerous expressive means of Russian language.
Сильное чувство всегда взаимно. Поэтому у серости - аллергия на яркость. И - наоборот.©

:shock: Seriously :shock: Even, with well deserved whole new respect for your English skills, your passage above has nothing, but nonsense in it. Somehow I was pleasantly surprised that you are capable of expressing yourself so well in English. But after I’ve read what was written above, my respect deteriorated without a trace. :idea: Don’t you think The Whole World in general, or Google specifically, has something better to do then to conspire against Velikij i Moguchij Russkij Yazik :?:
Only someone obsessed with conspiracy theory, can write nonsense like you did above. I just hope you fell victim to something you weren’t able fully comprehend. Sorry kuka, didn't mean to hurt your feelings, but had no choice. Everyone is entitled to be stupid from time to time, but in your post higher above you were abusing the privilege.

Here are few simple but very useful advices (IMHO) for better understanding English:

I would argue that Russian is richer than English, although it's something that every Russian speaker is tempted to believe in.

To begin with we need to define a metric to base the comparison on.
The most straightforward way to quantify richness of a language is to asses the size of its vocabulary. Well, I googled it and found out that Russian vocabulary consists of appox. 500.000 words, while English already has over a million and grows. q.e.d.

UPD: I responded to kuka's posting by hitting 'quote', and then read the rest of the thread only to find out that this was already covered.
