EI special benefits for self-employed people – April 1 deadline
Beginning January 2011, self-employed individuals will be able to access Employment Insurance (EI) special benefits. The early deadline to register for these benefits is April 1, 2010.
There are four types of benefits:
§ Maternity
§ Parental
§ Sickness
§ Compassionate care
Anyone who registers by April 1 will be able to make a claim for EI special benefits as early as Jan. 11, 2011. After this deadline, you’ll have to wait 12 months before you will be able to access benefits.
